Can I request a sample page before I make a commitment to build a site?
Absolutely! In fact, I recommend it. I understand that it’s important to
see the product you are getting before you pay for it. We will work
together to design the site you have envisioned. If you like what you
see, then a downpayment is required for me to continue to build your
site.
How do I get my own domain name and what does it cost?
There are a few different ways to get your own domain name. The first
step is to visit http://www.register.com/ to see if the name you are
interested in is available. It’s often best to wait until you decide who
is going to host your site before your register your domain name; often
they will offer a discount on domain name registration at the same time
that you sign up for hosting. See below for two recommended site hosts.
What is a site host? What does it cost?
A site host is the company that will “store” your web files for you. For
a small business, this cost is usually no more than $10/month. For those
who are just getting started and don’t want to drop a lot of money into
a web host, I recommend …
Do you provide any other services as part of my web site design?
Yes, I will work hard to get your site near the top of the search engine
listings. Your site is much more useful if people can find you easily on
the web. You should know though, that sometimes this can take weeks or
even months to accomplish and I do not guarantee placement because of
all the factors involved in search engine placement.
Do you design e-commerce sites (web store)?
Yes, I do design moderately sized e-commerce sites. If you already have
a merchant account, then the cost to sell items securely over the web is
minimal (approx. $48/year or choose a free option!). This does not
include the cost for me to design your online store. If you don’t have a
merchant account, and don’t want to get one, then options such as PayPal
are available to you for online transactions.
What does it cost to maintain my site? Can I maintain my site myself?
My fees to maintain and update your site are charged at an hourly rate
(equivalent to my current hourly rate on my rates page) for the changes
your require. If a change takes 15 minutes, you are only charged for a
quarter of an hour. I don’t charge a yearly or monthly fee for
maintenance. You pay only for what you ask to be changed or updated.
Yes, you may maintain your site yourself. I will give you the passwords
and info you need to make updates and changes. However, I am not able to
provide “training” in html or ftp. You must have and know how to use the
software you need to edit your site and transfer your files.
